Wooden sculpture, France – 1950s

An elegant and striking sculpture carved from solid olive wood, consisting of a single piece featuring carefully curved horizontal and vertical reliefs. The work conveys a strong sense of rhythm and depth, influenced by the Mediterranean atmosphere of the French Riviera. The sculpture was discovered in an artist’s studio in Grasse and can be dated to around the mid-1950s. Highly decorative, the sculptural approach and emphasis on the hand-carved structure are reminiscent of the work of independent studios, reflecting an interest in fine materials and sculptural table objects. France, 20th century.
